Welcome To

Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

The class teachers in Year 2 are Miss Wilkinson, Miss Johnson and Miss Crowder. Our P.E day is a Thursday. Please make sure you have your P.E kits in school and that everything is labelled with your child’s name.

Home learning menus are given out at the start of every half term highlighting activities and projects the children are encouraged to complete based on their current topic. Children will have the opportunity to share their learning with the rest of KS1 in a Merit Assembly on Friday afternoon. Projects will be displayed within school so that we can celebrate our achievements.

PPA:

Our PPA is on a Thursday afternoon. During this time, children will be taught by Mrs Robinson and Mr McCarroll. Mrs Pringle will also be covering Miss Johnson’s class on a Wednesday afternoon.

Summer Term

During the summer term, Year 2 have a range of exciting learning opportunities. In Literacy, we will be writing some fantastic narratives focussed on dinosaurs. Our writing will be inspired by the animated Netflix series ‘Camp Cretaceous’ and ‘The Good Dinosaur’. Expect some roarsome role play along the way! As well as consolidating our arithmetic maths skills, we will also be learning to measure and tell the time. Be sure to make the most of time and measurement games (using www.topmarks.com) to help embed your learning at home.

Our history learning is all about significant people. We will be delving into the reasons significant people make history and considering how we can also positively impact our world. As scientists, we will have the opportunity to visit a wildlife park to learn about different species of animals and their habitats. In R.E, we are learning about religious festivals and leaders. You may hear us making a racket with Mr Redmill in our music lessons! However, by the end of the term, we will have refined our ability to follow different rhythms using instruments. Keep an eye out on Twitter for the structures we will engineer as part of our role as a design technologist. Finally, we will finish the end of the year with some incredible artwork of royal portraits.
