Physical EducationPE & School Sport
Here at Stradbroke Primary School, we aim to offer a rich, broad and stimulating Physical Education curriculum that accommodates the needs of all children and inspires them to succeed and excel in a wide range of physical activities and sports.
Through the support of our specialist Sports Leader, Mr McCarroll, our dynamic teaching staff and other wider organisations and partners that we work alongside, the children are provided with two hours of high quality Physical Education and School Sport each week. We aim for pupils to become physically confident, develop core values and strive to fulfil their potential, whilst supporting their health and well-being to lead fit and healthy lifestyles.
Alongside our two hour timetabled Physical Education, Stradbroke also provides KS2 children with core swimming lessons and aims to provide opportunity for all children at Stradbroke to compete in fixtures, tournaments, festivals and extra curricula activity clubs in a wide variety of sports. Currently, 68% of our current Year 6 cohort can swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, 73% can use a range of swimming strokes effectively and 69% have attempted rescue in water-based situations.

Sports Premium Funding at Stradbroke
The Sports Premium Funding is an initiative facilitated by the current Government to enhance the provision of Physical Education and School Sport in primary schools across the UK. The funding has been available to primary schools since 2013/2014 and will be until 2020. Each year, primary schools receive a lump sum depending on the number of pupils on roll and then a further £10.00 per pupil on roll.

Last Year’s Success – Congratulations Mr Mills!
PE and School Sport at Stradbroke Primary School last year was very strong and we are proud to announce that we received the Gold Kitemark for the Sainsbury’s School Games Awards.
This involved hosting and attending a range of sporting competitions as well as showing inclusivity in sport. Stradbroke also ensured that a variety of activities, which developed sports and fitness, took place within the curriculum and after school.
Our plaque is available to view outside Mr Sitch’s office. Well done children for all your efforts!
Last Year’s Success
This year, here at Stradbroke, we will continually strive to develop Physical Education and School Sport by providing more professional development opportunities for all staff to enhance the teaching of high quality Physical Education and School Sport.
We will continue to enter and partake in more tournaments/fixtures/competitions for all SEND, KS1 and KS2 children and we will aim to provide wider opportunities to allow our pupils to participate in a broad range of afterschool and lunchtime activity clubs.
The vision is to ensure the teaching of Physical Education and Sport here at Stradbroke is outstanding for all children and ensuring the sustainability of tournaments, competitions and fixtures into the foreseeable future.
