Summer Term

For the Summer 2 term we will be looking at ‘Growth and changes.’

In Literary we will be focussing on the books ‘Jack and the Beanstalk,’ ‘What the Ladybird heard’ and ‘Superworm.’ We will be using our phonics knowledge to help us read and write sentences about the characters from each story.

In Phonics we will be using the knowledge we have acquired in Phase 3 to help us with our Phase 4 phonics. We will also be reviewing all of our Phase 2 and Phase 3 phonemes as well as practising our tricky words.

In Maths we will explore and represent patterns within numbers up to 10, including looking at odd and even numbers, developing our recall of double facts and how quantities can be distributed equally.  We will consolidate our learning from across the year to work out number problems and share our thinking with our friends.

In our wider curriculum sessions for history we will be introduced to the features of a castle where we will refer back to our class story of ‘Jack and a Beanstalk.’ As part of our science exploration we will look at the life cycle of a bean plant and what key things a plant needs to grow and thrive. We will become green fingered and plant our own beanstalks. We will gain a greater understanding of what life is like on a farm by learning about what produce is collected and grown on farms. We will also be visiting Chatsworth Farm Park to be farmers for the day. For our PSHE we will talk about what changes and transitions might take place as we move on up into Year One!
